About Emily Baughman

Emily earned a BA in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon. She worked in mapping software (GIS) for 5 years before attending Azusa Pacific University, where she graduated at the top of her class with a Master’s of Physical Therapy in 2000.

She became a Certified Orthopaedic Manual Therapist (COMT) through the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) in 2007 and completed a Fellowship through NAIOMT in 2013 to become a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). She obtained her specialist certification in orthopaedics (OCS) in 2015.

Temes W, Karas S, Baughman E. Addition of the Anterior Shear Test in Diagnosing Lumbar Segmental Instability: A Case Report. Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Practice, The Magazine of the Orthopaedic Section APTA, 2018; 30 (1): 24-29.

She was introduced to the IPA through her mentor, Kent Keyser, and during the last 6 years she pursued learning the FMT approach . She sat for the exam in August 2019 and was successful in obtaining her CMFT with Honors.

She specializes in orthopedic manual therapy and has worked for Therapeutic Associates since 2000. She is active in helping the profession as a lab assistant for IPA and NAIOMT courses and as mentor to other PTs who also work for Therapeutic Associates.

Emily has been married since 2001. She enjoys time with her family and friends, especially if it is participating in outdoor activities, such as walking her standard poodle, skiing, and hiking. She has volunteered for the Forest Service as an interpretive range for “Ski with a Ranger” programs at Snow Valley ski area in CA and at Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. She has a passion for our National Parks and other public lands and particularly for the American Southwest having spent childhood summers outside of Durango CO.
