About IPA
Who We Are:
- Founded in 1978, the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) was the first continuing education company to focus on function, which pushes the clinician to be innovative and creative in their application of treatment to adapt to the variability in patients.
- The IPA approach, Functional Manual Therapy® (FMT), is the only manual therapy system to comprehensively address mechanical capacity, neuromuscular function and motor control as interdependent components of movement.
- FMT is absolutely not passive manual therapy. We have always believed and taught that active patient involvement in restoring mobility and stability leads to quicker and more dramatic changes.

What We Believe:
- Continuing education should positively impact your life as well as your patients.
- All patients are unique individuals and have existing potential!
- Acknowledging human variability and empowering therapists with an adaptive and flexible application of treatment leads to better patient outcomes.
How We Teach:
- Live in-person classes with an emphasis on direct manual feedback: you get to feel a master’s hands.
- Real time effect of techniques by demonstrating on participants with dysfunctions
- Continuous before and after functional tests during the class to directly correlate the use of techniques to a change in function in all patient populations.
